Shaping a dynamic school day: why and how

Getting enough exercise has a positive influence on pupils’ social, cognitive and motor development. Children who get enough exercise at a young age benefit from the advantages of a more active lifestyle later in life. How do you talk to students about traumatic events?

How do you talk to students about traumatic events?

This has once again become particularly relevant because of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Traumatic events such as a war, the natural disaster in Turkey and Syria, or violence in the neighborhood can also affect your group or class. This calls for attentiveness, conversation, empathy, time, and space in everyday teaching. At every street corner, they are confronted with unhealthy temptations, which are often cheaper than healthy products. In addition, the impact of our dietary patterns on the environment is becoming increasingly visible. To meet these challenges, the food curriculum framework has been updated by the Netherlands Nutrition Centre and the national centre of expertise for curriculum development, SLO.

Together with the Public Health Department and the schools, efforts are being made to create a healthier school environment. In the meantime, significant steps have already been taken in the right direction. One of the most important is the growing awareness of why this is important.
