Background information

The study day focuses on the 2 + 1 + 2 model. This model is gaining increasing ground, including through the provision of two hours of physical education in primary education from August 2023. What is this model and what can you expect on the study day? All elements of the model will be covered during the study day.
The first 2 focuses on the scheduled physical education hours for all children between 4 and 18 years old. During the first two hours, physical activity is seen as the objective, based on ‘learning to move better’. The physical education lessons are central to this, with the specialist physical education teacher as the hub. The + 1 stands for one additional hour of specialised physical activity. This includes activities such as active learning, motor remedial teaching and playing in the school playground during breaks. These are activities in which physical activity is used as a means by various physical activity professionals in and around the school. The + 2 stands for more physical activity and sports. This involves broad-based physical activity, at sports clubs, in after-school programmes, through playground sports or neighbourhood activities. This seeks to connect specialist physical education teachers, community sports coaches, community sports coordinators, sports clubs, sports federations and all physical activity partners who help children aged 4–18 to be more active and move better.
The study day is for all physical activity professionals involved in helping children aged 4 to 18 learn to move better and be more physically active. The programme addresses all types of education and age groups, as well as, of course, physical activity in and around the school.
