JOGG strives for a ‘lifestyle transition’ from unhealthy to healthy living. “But you cannot change society in a single day,” says Joris. As a JOGG coordinator, he connects various parties at local level to make children's living environment healthier. “You need support, ideas, strategies, experiments and time. And above all, each other—which is why JOGG and the King's Games have been playing a one-two with each other for years. With particular attention being paid to the King's Breakfast. This is a healthy breakfast, so that the children can look forward to a wonderful day full of energy. Of course, we do not wish that for just one day a year, but for every day of the year.”

Overhead passes in Buren and Neder-Betuwe

After the healthy breakfast, the pupils get started with sports and physical activities. There is a varied programme focusing on volleyball, because the Women's Volleyball World Championship largely took place in the province of Gelderland (September/October 2022).

A block of volunteers

Joris: “During the King's Games, we work with many volunteers. These are mainly volunteers and trainers from local sports and physical activity providers, as well as primary school teachers, parent helpers and students studying sports. And, of course, community sports coaches. My role as a JOGG coordinator and community sports coach is primarily to provide support and make connections.”

Scoring rallies

“Not only are we improving in the game of volleyball,” says Joris, “but every year we are also growing in the number of children, because we organise it together in our villages. It is so great to see that everyone can take part!”
