The 2023 theme highlights the importance of an active and connected society. And everyone is needed for that. This year, the King’s Games therefore challenge everyone to create as many One-Twos as possible.

King’s Games song ZIGGZAGG

The theme ‘1-2, everyone takes part’ is also reflected in the Sports and Celebration Package that registered schools receive and in the King’s Games song by Kinderen voor Kinderen. The title of the song, which will be released at the end of March, was announced when registration opened and is  ZIGGZAGG.

King’s Games held over two days instead of one

This is the first time that the King’s Games will take place over two days. This is a one-off, because Eid al-Fitr falls on Friday 21 April, giving all schools and all children the opportunity to take part in the active celebration of the Dutch royal family.

The activities of the King’s Games are the same on both days. So it does not matter which day a school chooses. On both days, schools can make use of the free King’s Breakfast, thanks to partner Jumbo.

The importance of eating a healthy breakfast and being physically active

“We are happy to teach children that a healthy breakfast and getting enough exercise are not only fun, but also important. It would be wonderful if all children in the Netherlands had access to a healthy breakfast and were also all able to be physically active,” says Richard Krajicek, initiator of the King’s Games.

The new King’s Games Moves were also launched when registration opened—in other words, new movement breaks for use in the classroom. This enables teachers to exercise with their pupils throughout the year. For more information, visit www.koningsspelen.nl/energizers.

Smart assists make it easier to take part

Whether you set out breakfast as a volunteer, do a wheelie during the opening dance, give an inspiring sports clinic, or pack an extra bottle of water for your child. Everyone takes part in their own way! This year, the King’s Games are helping with many smart assists in the form of One-Twos.

One of the One-Twos is the cooperation between sports providers and schools, so that there is not only sporting support during the King’s Games, but that children also know how to find their way to a sports provider after the King’s Games. So that everyone continues to take part.

One-Twos between sports providers and schools

Schools can indicate that they would like support with the sporting activities of the King’s Games. For this, they can use the ‘Online King’s Match Tool’. Through this tool, schools can easily get in touch with sports providers in the area who are happy to help. This makes it easy for schools and sports providers to create a One-Two together.

Register through 28 February

Schools have until 28 February to register for the active celebration of the Dutch royal family. Almost 1.3 million children from more than 6,000 primary schools take part in the King’s Games. These are primary schools in the Netherlands, the Caribbean region and Dutch schools abroad.
