Qualitative research
In May and June, Stichting Alexander spoke with 68 young adults between the ages of 18 and 27 in a series of group discussions about their perspectives on vaccination and what they need to make their choice. This research provides insight into a broad range of perceptions, motivations and opinions. It also offers insight into the obstacles young adults encounter in their decision-making process, and what they need to be able to make a well-considered choice.
Recommendations
Whatever their current position on vaccination – in favour, against or undecided – young adults say that the stream of (incorrect and correct) information makes their choice more difficult. They therefore need clear, honest, target-group-oriented and accessible information about both the benefits and risks of the vaccines. In this context, it is important to be able to check whether information in circulation is factually incorrect. In addition, it is important to young adults that they have the opportunity to discuss their questions and doubts, and can receive support in understanding and weighing up information, considerations and feelings. In the report, young adults provide targeted recommendations to GGD GHOR Nederland on this subject. Other professional groups working with young adults can also use these perspectives and recommendations in their work.
