Using examples from Maastricht, Jelle Versluis from Maastricht Sport will show how the Healthy Secondary Education in Motion programme helps schools work on nutrition, physical activity and vitality in a tailored way. This could include physical activity during breaks, cooking lessons, a drinking water policy or an after-school sports programme – all adapted to what a school needs. The workshop is part of KVLO Limburg’s broader programme, which includes three more inspiring sessions:
The Game Lesson (primary and secondary education): active workshop.
Moving well and with enjoyment throughout your life. It sounds logical and simple, but in practice it often is not! Activities regularly turn into games in which children move too little and unnecessarily stand still. What a shame, because precisely at a time when physical activity is becoming less and less self-evident, it should be actively encouraged. Matthijs Jansen will show how to ensure that all children move well continuously and with enjoyment! The games used are functional, effective and original. Thought has also been given to making the activities easy to carry out in lessons.
Play-fighting without the hassle (primary and secondary education): active workshop.
Freek van Iersel, lecturer and researcher at HAN University of Applied Sciences, will take participants into the dojo. He will help participants discover how judo suits are unnecessary and which techniques may be slightly overrated. In recent years, more and more grappling sports have focused on an ecological approach to learning. It is not the technique but the task and active exploration that are central. This approach, which has been successful with top athletes as well as beginners and children, increases enjoyment, performance and learning outcomes, and creates a greater sense of success.
Bat-and-running games (upper primary and secondary education): active outdoor workshop.
