Thanks to the New Roots Project - Interreg Deutschland-Nederland, IVN Regio Noord will, for the first time, have clear data on how a day of mudflat walking, fishing for freshwater creatures or catching crabs affects the way children relate to nature.
IVN Regio Noord is keen to see the results, and the participation of schools is indispensable. The more classes take part, the clearer the picture becomes of what nature education brings about. IVN Regio Noord is therefore calling on schools to book their excursion or school trip to Natuurschool Lauwersoog for this autumn. In this way, they will help measure what a day in the Lauwersmeer does for a class. Bookings can be made via https://lnkd.in/eVmC4J_P.
Natuurschool Lauwersoog
The Natuurschool in Lauwersoog has been the top destination for school trips and excursions for almost 30 years. Depending on the high and low tides on the day the school visits Natuurschool, they choose three activities. The enthusiastic Natuurschool guide stays with the class all day and supervises the activities in such a way that every pupil enjoys them.
The four activities for primary education:
Fishing from the Jetty in the Harbour
Look, touch, perhaps even taste and be amazed!
Mudflat Walking Excursion
Walking on the floor of the Wadden Sea is a remarkable experience. There are also worms, shells and millipedes crawling everywhere beneath your feet! Exciting and cool at the same time. The Natuurschool guide leads the pupils across the mudflats and also shares all kinds of fascinating facts.
Hybiën
Using special dip nets, also known as hybie nets, fish in a shallow side arm of the Lauwersmeer for beetles, true bugs, shrimp, small fish and perhaps even a real eel! The Natuurschool guide tells the pupils something fascinating about each creature.
Long Live the White-tailed Eagle
Walk with us through the bird paradise of Lauwersmeer National Park. Discover which special birds live in this area and experience what it is like to be a bird. We will search for the white-tailed eagle and recreate its nest at full size. Would the whole group fit inside?
The four activities for secondary education (years 1, 2 and 3):
Freshwater Fishing in the Lauwersmeer
Using hybie nets, fish in a shallow side arm of the Lauwersmeer for beetles, true bugs, shrimp, small fish and perhaps even a real eel! During the catch discussion, special attention is paid to the remarkable way of life of the three-spined stickleback and the eel. Afterwards, the entire catch is returned to the Lauwersmeer.
Fishing from the Jetty in the Harbour of Lauwersoog
A fishing harbour is a world of its own, about which pupils often know little. Through various activities, pupils become acquainted with several fish from the Wadden Sea, including their way of life, shape and function. Using a hoop net, they fish for small marine animals from a floating jetty.
Mudflat Walking Excursion
Walking on the floor of the Wadden Sea is a remarkable experience. There are also worms, shells and millipedes crawling everywhere beneath your feet! Exciting and cool at the same time. The enthusiastic Natuurschool guide leads the pupils across the mudflats and also shares all kinds of fascinating facts about the various bottom-dwelling animals.
Building Dikes with the Noorderzijlvest Water Authority
What is needed to maintain the 17,000 km of dikes in the Netherlands? How is a dike built, and which materials are best suited for this? What do you do when the water level rises? The pupils experience what is involved in building a dike and then build their own dike. Will it be strong enough?
