Griefelen, the working name for the programme, is a tool for helping children between the ages of 2.5 and 8 move from tension to relaxation. At its core is playfully supporting the ability to self-regulate in the areas of behaviour, emotion and attachment. This is preferably done together with parents. The result is that young children are better able to cope with the stress of everyday life.

The programme can be used both preventively and therapeutically. Preventively, it strengthens resilience in children and parents, helping them to be better prepared for the obstacles of the future. If stress is already present, the programme can be used as part of a broader treatment plan. For example, it can serve as preparation for or an addition to EMDR, play therapy, speech therapy and all forms of parent-child therapy. It also provides parents with tools to support their child in regulating sensations and emotions.

During the webinar, the two speakers will explain and illustrate what the Griefelen programme is and what it looks like in practice. In addition to a general introduction and the theoretical foundations, they will discuss applications in the family context. Dinco Verhelst is a contextual and play therapist, and Eveline Beerkens is a GZ psychologist specialising in children and adolescents and a clinical educationalist accredited by NVO/NIP; both are developers of the Griefelen programme.
