After a long period of forced home quarantine, most schools have reopened. For the students, this finally means another opportunity to meet their classmates. Yet this restart also raises questions and concerns, such as: how will this go, what have they all experienced, how have they maintained social contacts now that this was only possible through digital channels, how will the groups re-form, and what about their sense of safety—not only physically (can I catch the virus?), but also socially (what is my place in the group?)?
We know that for girls, forming and maintaining social relationships is a complicated and sensitive process. It is a process of including and excluding that is extremely subtle and largely takes place under the radar of adults. We could therefore compare the coming period to a new start of the school year, or the ‘Golden Corona Weeks’.
The webinar ‘Girls in Times of Corona’ focuses on how you as a teacher and/or parent can give this a practical interpretation. After watching it, you will know how girls form relationships, how things can go wrong, and how you can support them with understanding and compassion.
The webinar is presented by Pierre Pas, senior educational adviser, co-developer and trainer of the method ‘Girl Meanness Is Not Nice’, and Marieke Martens, child coach and also a trainer of this method. The method is a recognized Healthy School activity. The teaching method for addressing and preventing (concerning) bullying behavior among girls aged 9 to 17 aims to make girl meanness understandable (for all target groups) and reduce it.
