Increasing knowledge and awareness of the health risks of alcohol is an action from the National Prevention Agreement that State Secretary Paul Blokhuis (VWS) concluded in 2018 with more than 70 civil society organisations. That this is urgently needed became clear from a survey conducted by PanelWizard on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Trimbos Institute. The respondents achieved an average score of 5.1. Fewer than 9 percent of the participants spontaneously mentioned that alcohol increases the risk of cancer. Only 5 percent of the respondents knew that alcohol consumption increases the risk of breast cancer.

The study is a prelude to the launch of a broad awareness campaign about the health effects of alcohol in 2020. The National Prevention Agreement states that 80 percent of the Dutch population should be familiar with the Health Council's guideline by 2040.

But what if you want to organise a party with alcohol at school? The website https://www.alcoholinfo.nl/publiek/wet-beleid/scholen has listed the requirements you must meet. In short, all the rules that apply to a sports club cafeteria also apply at school. However, it does matter whether it is a private party.

The Trimbos Institute's Alcohol Expertise Centre contains dossiers on, among other things, Alcohol and young people and Alcohol and students.
