During the Symposium ‘Suicide Prevention Among Young People’, the organizers bring youth care workers and school professionals, foster parents, family-home parents, researchers, and policymakers together to learn from practical experiences, share the latest insights, and explore ways to understand and support vulnerable young people experiencing suicidal thoughts even better.
Topics that will be covered include:
- strengthening resilience among vulnerable young people;
- practical tools for having conversations about suicidality;
- the effectiveness of (foster parent) training, experiential expertise, and peer support.
The programme
12:30–13:00. Arrival, coffee and tea.
13:00–13:30. Opening and introduction by the chair of the day and Prof. Dr. Diana van Bergen.
13:30–14:15. Lecture 1: Dr. Mandy Gijzen on recovery processes among young people who have experienced suicidality.
14:15–15:00. Lecture 2: Dr. Kim Setkowski on developing and delivering training for (foster or family-home) parents caring for a child with suicidal thoughts.
15:00–15:15. Coffee break.
15:15–16:30.
- Workshop 1 on suicide prevention for (foster) parents, led by Everdina de Haan & Dr. Kim Setkowski.
- Workshop 2 on young people’s perspectives on suicidality and suicide prevention.
- Workshop 3 on suicide prevention for (foster) parents, led by Ellen Arink.
16:30. Closing by the chair of the day.
16:45. Drinks reception in the restaurant of De Kargadoor.
