More and more schools are aware that the challenges facing us as a society require a change in the way we interact with one another and with the earth. On a small and large scale, and through many projects, they are exploring how we can build a sustainable society, a circular economy and a better world. How can you, as a school, prepare students at the core for these challenges? And how can you embed sustainable thinking and action in the DNA of your school?
To help schools integrate sustainable development into the core of education, the Leren voor Morgen cooperative will present a tool for developing a vision at the end of August 2021: the Sustainable Education Roadmap. The roadmap helps school leaders, teachers, students, parents, local residents and local entrepreneurs to jointly develop a vision of what sustainability means to them and to translate this vision into a concrete strategy, with attention to all the elements of the Whole School Approach: curriculum, pedagogy and teaching methods, buildings and operations, professional development and the surrounding environment.
Conditions
Every school in practical education, prevocational secondary education, secondary vocational education and higher professional education can apply to Leren voor Morgen for co-financing to develop a vision and strategy for learning for sustainable development using the roadmap. This may cover the entire school or a department within the school.
Leren voor Morgen’s funding amounts to a maximum of 40% of the total costs and a maximum of € 5,000. This contribution can be used to appoint an internal project leader and work through the roadmap independently, or to engage external support from a member of Leren voor Morgen. In both cases, the following conditions apply:
- The school invests in the project itself by making time available for teachers, students, school management and (facility) staff and/or by engaging external support from a member of Leren voor Morgen. This investment must amount to at least 60% of the total project costs.1
- The school provides transparency in the vision-development process by keeping a Guide on the project’s progress throughout the project.2
- The school evaluates how the process went (possibly together with the external adviser) and also shares this evaluation on Guides, in order to encourage knowledge exchange between schools.3
