About the session
Regular physical activity and limiting prolonged sitting are important for the health and proper development of young children. The recently developed physical activity advice for 0–4-year-olds, complementing the physical activity guidelines, confirms this once again. In this session, led by Rebecca Beck, you will learn what the Health Council recommends and how to put this into practice. It will be a session full of interesting speakers and an expert panel from both research and practice, who, despite their different backgrounds, share the same message: start young with exercise.
Rebecca Beck (Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity) and Liza van Koperen (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport) will discuss how this advice came about and what will follow. Jessica Gubbels (Maastricht University) will share the latest news from the research community. Next, Zeina Bassa (Veiligheid NL) will introduce you to the theme of ‘risky play’: how do you move from protecting children to empowering them? The final theme addressed is screen use, which can no longer be ignored in today’s world. How do you ensure a balance between physical activity, sitting and digital media? Anouk Tuijnman (Trimbos Institute) will share our perspective.
To provide the necessary context and interaction, a diverse panel will share its perspectives on all these themes. The panel consists of Ellen Hemler (NVFK), Mirka Janssen (HvA) and Pim Koolwijk (The Hague University of Applied Sciences).
