In addition to descriptions of the activities, the lesson cards describe situations (what do you see?) based on ‘does it work? – can it be done? – is it enjoyable?’, along with possible solutions (what do you do?). The lesson cards also include specific tips and tricks for children and young people with physical, behavioural, intellectual and/or visual disabilities. The cards contain clear overview illustrations, making the purpose of the activity even clearer.

The first lesson cards, created together with the Atletiekunie, Judobond, NeVoBo, KNLTB, NBB, KNGU, KNHB and KNVB, are now available through the Campus. In the coming period, we will launch a number of new lesson cards from these federations every other Thursday. Cards are already in development with other sports federations as well, and a series of lesson cards featuring activities that can be carried out in the school playground will also follow soon.

About the Special Heroes Campus

The Special Heroes Campus is the practical information portal for professionals about physical activity and sports for people with disabilities in their leisure time. In addition to activities for use in practice, you will also find a range of information, such as training courses, textbooks, videos and tip cards.

The aim of the Special Heroes Campus is to support professionals in their daily practice, enabling them to create a valuable sports and physical activity setting for the target group, in which enjoyment of physical activity and the discovery of talents are central. Another aim of the site is to bring information about the target group and practical activities together in one place. This is why the Campus is an initiative of Special Heroes Nederland and has been developed in collaboration with Kenniscentrum Sport, NOC*NSF/Grenzeloos Actief, various sports federations, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen and Bewegen Samen Regelen.

Franceline van de Geer, programme coordinator at Special Heroes Nederland: “Since its launch, several organisations have already found the platform and shared their information with us. We invite other organisations to contact us if they also have materials, lesson cards, publications, etc. that are suitable for the platform.”

Stichting Special Heroes Nederland is committed to the social, mental and physical development of people with disabilities by promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and creating the largest and broadest possible range of opportunities in the areas of sport and physical activity, art and culture, work and participation, and nutrition and health.
