Stichting Special Heroes Nederland runs various programs within (Special) Education, Rehabilitation and Care to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for people with disabilities.
In addition to the revamped website, the Special Heroes Campus has also been launched: www.specialheroescampus.nl. This platform is the information portal for sports professionals about physical activity and sports for people with disabilities in their leisure time. Here you will find various types of information, such as training courses, textbooks, tip cards and lesson cards for activities in practice.
The new logo reflects the approach of Special Heroes Netherlands. Special Heroes Netherlands:
- explores the needs in the various sectors;
- translates those needs into the development and implementation of programs;
- connects parties in this implementation;
- embeds the programs structurally.
Special Heroes Netherlands wants to act as a driving force for organizations so that they implement and structurally embed programs, thereby encouraging the target group of people with disabilities to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle.
Special Heroes Netherlands has three programs that are of interest to education:
Sport Heroes
Sport Heroes is a sports promotion program for pupils in (secondary) special education. It was launched because children and young people with disabilities participate in sports significantly less often. With this program, we want pupils aged 6 to 19 to experience how enjoyable sports and physical activity can be. The pupils and their wishes are central, and suitable sports and physical activities are offered based on these. From football, athletics, korfball and judo to wheelchair dancing, hockey and freerunning.

Art Heroes
The Art Heroes program is offered in collaboration with schools and cultural associations and institutions. We use the same methodology as with Sport Heroes by first introducing pupils to cultural activities within the familiar environment of the school. They can then continue to develop their skills structurally after school or outside school hours. Like Sport Heroes, the Art Heroes promotion program contributes to finding meaningful and structured leisure activities in which pupils can develop and discover their talents.

I am P.A.
Pupils at practical schools and in secondary special education have the opportunity to take part in the I am P.A. program. Young people with disabilities are trained to become professional assistants (P.A.s). By, for example, organizing or supervising sports and cultural activities, they learn to discover and develop their talents. The program strengthens the young people's participation and self-confidence. The skills they acquire are useful for further education or finding (volunteer) work.
