In an article in De Volkskrant on Saturday 24 August, a visit is paid to Wereldwijs primary school in Landgraaf, one of four primary schools in the eastern mining region participating in the Healthy Primary School of the Future. The eastern mining region has had high rates of health problems for decades, and children inherit both their parents’ behaviour and their health problems. According to a GGD study, residents have also been made dependent over the years on the mining industry and the welfare state, leaving them less able to take care of themselves.
Research has now shown that the approach of eating more healthily and exercising more works. BMI decreased at all four schools.
Would you like to see this successful approach in practice? Then come to the two-day knowledge session in Landgraaf about the Healthy Primary School of the Future. Information can be found via this link.
The professional journal GLOS (Healthy Lifestyle at School) covered the practical implementation of the Healthy Primary School of the Future in the following two articles:
- Read the article about BS Langeberg in Brunssum, which focused primarily on exercise.
- Also read the article about OBS Wereldwijs in Landgraaf, which focused on nutrition, exercise and biological rhythms.
An earlier report about the interim evaluation was published on this website.
