SO de Hertog: Dedicated specialist teachers and a challenging programme
The special education jury was impressed by the dedicated specialist teachers who provide a broad range of physical activity and sports. Physical activity is also integrated into the care structure, while the after-school programme is tailored to the target group and offers plenty of challenge. “The school really breathes physical activity. This was evident in the gym, in the classrooms, but also after school,” said jury member Saskia Biesterbosch of CALO.
SO de Hertog is pleased with this recognition: “This really feels like a reward, because for our target group it is certainly not always easy to find a sport. We do a great deal with physical activity at school. We had an amazing day,” said specialist teachers Mieke Akkermans and Dennis Bargerman.
CBS Het Lichtpunt: Outstanding in its strong vision of a dynamic school day
According to the jury for mainstream primary education, CBS Het Lichtpunt is the deserving winner because the school excels in the way the dynamic school day has been developed and is supported by a strong vision, a solid team of specialist teachers and outdoor play support staff. At this school, the importance of ‘developing skills from an early age’ takes shape through no fewer than four physical education lessons taught by the specialist teacher to kindergarten pupils. The jury was impressed by the commitment of the junior coaches. This is an area in which the school is truly prepared to invest.
Specialist teacher Tim Calmthout says: “We are incredibly proud. We have worked incredibly long and hard on a dynamic school day for our children, because that is what we do it for. And then it is fantastic that all that work is rewarded with first prize. And now we keep going! We’re not there yet. After today, we will once again take away some great ideas from other schools in the field of physical education.”
Best sports presentation & knowledge-sharing event
At the opening, all the schools presented spectacular sports demonstrations. The prize for the best sports presentation was won by both SO de Ommezwaai Arnhem (special education) and the Johannesschool from Arnhem (primary education). Both won a clinic from AirTrack Factory.
In addition to the competition, a successful knowledge-sharing event took place in the afternoon, focusing on knowledge exchange among the specialist teachers and school principals of the nominated schools.
About the ‘Most Sporty School in the Netherlands’ competition
Every year, the KVLO, together with NOC*NSF, Special Heroes Nederland and the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity, organises the ‘Most Sporty School in the Netherlands’ competition. One year, the search is for the most sporty primary school and most sporty special (primary) education school, while the following year the competitions are organised for secondary education and special secondary education. The aim of this competition is to recognise sports-active schools and departments that offer an exceptional or innovative programme of physical activity and sports for their school. In addition, the organisers are pleased to give these schools a platform to inspire other schools. Naturally, all the schools are Healthy Schools. Bosan, Janssen-Fritsen and Nijha provide annual gift vouchers for all nominated schools.
