Why the Smokefree Challenge?

According to the Trimbos Institute, owner of the Smokefree Challenge, 32% of 16-year-old students have smoked at least once. Among 12-year-old students, this figure is 4%. Research shows that the younger students are when they start smoking, the more often they continue to smoke. Participation in the Smokefree Challenge reinforces the negative attitude that students in the first and second years still have towards smoking. In other words: they do not smoke for longer.

Support

The Smokefree Challenge is supported by prevention workers from regional addiction care organisations or municipal health services. They also guide schools during the Challenge.

Prizes

At the end of the challenge, the class submits a creative assignment. The class with the best creative assignment wins the grand prize: a day out of its choice for the entire class, including bus transportation. In addition, two more classes will be rewarded with a healthy activity of their choice.
