During the previous New Year's Eve, approximately 480 children under the age of 16 sustained injuries. Around 4 in 10 victims were bystanders, and among children under 12, this was as many as 5 in 10. Although children are not allowed to set off fireworks, many children are still involved with them. 4vuurwerkveilig is a digital educational package for grades 7 and 8 that raises students' awareness of the dangers of fireworks in an effective way. At its core are the 4 most important tips for a safe New Year's Eve.

What's new?

The educational package has been updated with the latest figures and fireworks regulations, as well as additional information about the risks of different types of fireworks. Good protection has been an important element of the educational package for years; in addition to the tips, we also recommend wearing hearing protection. The educational package includes, among other things, a (video) presentation, quiz and worksheets with puzzles, experiments and a homework assignment. Depending on the teacher's preferences and possibilities, the teacher can give one lesson or spread the material over several lessons.

New in the educational package: a video featuring Sjoerd (9), a fireworks victim, which teachers can discuss in class. Last year, he unknowingly came into possession of F1 fireworks and was injured. There is also a video specifically for parents that you can share in the parent newsletter or app. In this video, Sjoerd's mother explains what went wrong, and a doctor from Radboudumc gives tips for a safe New Year's Eve. Copy the link and share it with parents or guardians.
