The workshop in brief
In the workshop ‘Consent: teaching young people to flirt and date as equals and enjoyably’, you will learn all about consent and receive tools for making it a topic of discussion with young people. You will discover why some young people find it difficult to follow their own wishes and boundaries and to recognise and respect those of others. You will learn how good communication contributes to equal, voluntary and pleasurable sexual encounters, and receive concrete tips on how to start a conversation with young people about this.
Who is it for?
The workshop is intended for professionals who work with young people, for example in youth work, education or care, and who want to contribute to promoting equal and pleasurable interactions and preventing sexually transgressive behaviour.
Programme
In this workshop, you will learn how to make consent a topic of discussion with young people. You will be able to answer questions that many young people have, such as how to flirt and date in a way that is enjoyable for both people and how to discuss consent with each other without it becoming a mood-killer. You will also learn to identify underlying motives that make asking for and giving consent difficult, and to challenge them. During the workshop, you will receive practical tools, tips and tricks. These will help you support young people in engaging in and maintaining equal, voluntary and pleasurable sexual encounters.
Outcome
After the workshop, you will have the skills to discuss consent:
- You will understand the conditions for consent in flirting, dating and sexual relationships.
- You will understand the underlying factors that make giving consent difficult.
- You will know how to help young people focus on shared pleasure instead of on what they think is expected of them.
- You will be able to support young people in following their own wishes and boundaries and respecting those of others.
- You will be able to proactively talk with young people about how the law has changed and what this means for them (and what it does not mean).
