Young people rate their sex education with a 5.8, a barely passing grade. While one school makes a tremendous effort, another is still searching for the right approach. Yet another school finds the topic difficult and prefers to avoid it.

Wishes and boundaries

Recent events involving sexual boundary violations show how important it is for young people to learn to recognise and respect each other’s wishes and boundaries. It is important that young people discuss this with one another, practise together and understand diversity.

In the classroom

During the Johannes Rutgers Dialogue 2022, we will take our seats in the classroom and engage in conversation with young people, teachers and politicians. What do young people want to change so that they will rate their sex education with a high mark? What do teachers in secondary education and vocational education need? What do we know from research? And the key question: what can politicians in The Hague do to improve sex education for all young people?

The Johannes Rutgers Dialogue will take place on Monday 3 October 2022 from 3:00 p.m. in Utrecht. The Dialogue is in Dutch and accessible by invitation only. It is, however, possible to follow the Dialogue online. Information about this will be available in due course on the Rutgers website, www.rutgers.nl
