Early registration
All primary schools, special primary education schools and secondary special education schools will have the opportunity to register from 9 May through 20 May 2022. This date is still subject to change.
The registration period has been brought forward compared with previous years. This means that the vegetable and fruit deliveries can begin immediately after the summer holidays. The free deliveries will run from 5 September 2022 through 10 February 2023.
A school registers with the actual number of enrolled pupils. All pupils will receive 3 free portions of vegetables and fruit per week for 20 weeks.
Approximately 3,000 schools can participate. If the number of registrations exceeds the maximum capacity, an independent lottery will be held.
Appoint a school fruit coordinator
Appoint a school fruit coordinator internally to take responsibility for organising the EU-Schoolfruit and vegetable programme at the school. The school fruit coordinator registers the school using a school account via www.registratie.euschoolfruit.nl.
Does the school still have an account from previous years? Use it again to log in and register the school for the 2022–2023 school year.
Schools that have not participated before must first create a school account and then register using the account.
From April onwards, you will find more information about registration and the conditions on the website www.euschoolfruit.nl.
To prepare for registration:
- Consider whether you want to register multiple locations where you would like to receive the delivery separately. These locations must be registered separately.
- Gather school details such as: BRIN number, contact details, actual number of pupils and number of groups from September onwards, holiday weeks and staff training days.
Multiple locations?
Does the school have multiple locations and would you like to receive the delivery separately at each location? Then create a school account for each location and register the locations separately. The school account is created based on the BRIN number. Each location receives its own sequence number after the BRIN number.
Why is a banana curved?
Is your school participating? Then your school is required to make an effort to teach children about vegetables and fruit. One condition for participation in the programme is providing the EU-Schoolfruit introductory lesson and at least one short lesson activity (‘snack’). These lessons can be used during snack time. The EU-Schoolfruit lessons connect seamlessly with Taste Lessons. Experiencing food is central to the Taste Lessons.
All teaching materials can be found in ‘Chef!’. Chef! is the free online teaching portal containing all the lessons and activities from Taste Lessons and EU-Schoolfruit. In Chef!, you can work flexibly and tailor-made on food education at school. All lessons can be taught using an interactive whiteboard.

From 20 to 40 weeks of school fruit
The EU-Schoolfruit and vegetable programme lasts 20 weeks and ends in mid-February. You can also continue to focus on vegetables and fruit after these weeks. During the EU-Schoolfruit programme, you will receive information about how to make eating vegetables and fruit the standard at your school. This can be done by making agreements with parents about fixed vegetable and fruit days or by taking out a (paid) subscription with a supplier. There is a special website with useful information and a step-by-step plan for establishing a school fruit policy.

EU-Schoolfruit organisation
The EU-Schoolfruit and vegetable programme is financed by the European Union and falls under the school fruit scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) implement the school fruit scheme. RVO checks whether the implementation is proceeding properly and allocates suppliers to the schools. As the support centre, WUR is responsible for communication, registration and education during the programme. The suppliers handle the purchasing and transport of the fruit and vegetable deliveries.
