You never raise children alone. Every year, Parenting Week draws attention to this throughout the country through various activities and the sharing of knowledge.
Raising children and young people is important, but can sometimes be quite difficult. That is why Parenting Week focuses on raising children and parenthood. Parents and professionals involved in raising children do not have to face it alone. The Week focuses on meeting and exchanging knowledge between parents, co-educators and professionals.
What is good parenting?
What do you consider important in parenthood, and what does it do to you? Parenting Week takes place every year to encourage parents to talk to one another and involve their own communities. This helps them feel supported and gives them the feeling that they are not alone. Think of support from neighbours, friends, schools and local parenting professionals such as the Centre for Youth and Family (CJG).
By and for whom?
Parenting Week is for and by everyone involved in raising children. Everyone can take part by organising or attending an activity.
Based on a jointly chosen theme, the Netherlands Youth Institute coordinates Parenting Week. The Netherlands Youth Institute provides promotional materials that can be used during the Week. Activities during the Week are organised, among others, by:
- parents
- children and young people
- schools
- childcare centres
- Centres for Youth and Family
- libraries
- sports, cultural and welfare associations
- community centres
- playgrounds
- youth care institutions
- municipalities
There are no limits to the types of activities: a read-aloud competition, a parenting game, a workshop on philosophising with your child or a lecture on positive parenting.
