It was Grietje Holtrop, administrative assistant at De Opstap, who entered the school for the school prize awarded by the Jantje Beton foundation. “Every year, the pupils raise money for Jantje Beton, which is committed to creating more space for play. Half of the proceeds goes to Jantje Beton, while the school is allowed to keep the other half. The student council can always decide what they want to buy with that money, such as balls and things like that. Later, I received an email about Jantje Beton’s school prize, so I entered our school, and that is how we won the panna cage,” she explains.

“We received an artificial grass pitch and the fencing, but we had to take care of the groundwork ourselves,” Grietje explains. “A number of enthusiastic parents helped us with that. They helped with the digging, laying the layers of sand and gravel, and paving. It was quite a job, and they spent several evenings working on it. The panna cage is there thanks to these helpful parents.”
