According to Nieuwenhuis, the offering for secondary education was sparse. He could only find standard examples, and these videos were often poorly explained. This prompted him to create his own database with clear visuals and instructions. He also considers it important that the videos can be widely shared, so that not every teacher has to reinvent the wheel.

Creation of physical education videos

Nieuwenhuis made videos at various locations, such as the De Graafschap football club for football videos, the Arnhem and Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences for handball videos, and the Orion volleyball club for volleyball videos.

Physical education database is popular

He now has hundreds of followers and thousands of views on YouTube. The videos are watched attentively, as the video statistics show that most viewers watch at least 85% of the videos. The unfamiliar activities are watched the most, such as variations on dodgeball, unusual football games, warm-up activities, self-defence, and activities involving new sports equipment.

LOF initiative

Nieuwenhuis is an educational pioneer and has received an extension of his LOF grant for the 2019/2020 school year. He now intends to focus on less familiar sports, such as badminton and fencing, and will work even more closely with clubs and schools. He will also expand the range of videos to include complete lesson series. In doing so, he aims to help physical education teachers deliver enjoyable, high-quality lessons. This is especially useful when physical education teachers have less experience with certain lesson components. Nieuwenhuis also wants to record lessons specifically aimed at students requiring additional support. Examples include relay games with additional rest areas, or adaptations for visually impaired students.
