Which schools are in the running for the title this year?
On 23 May 2022, the nominees will have the chance to become the ‘Most Active Primary School/Special Education School in the Netherlands 2022’. This is the ninth time that KVLO (Royal Association for Physical Education), the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity, NOC*NSF and Stichting Special Heroes Nederland have organised this election. In doing so, they hope to inspire as many schools as possible and encourage pupils to be as active and versatile as possible.
The following five primary schools have been nominated:
- OBS Houtrust - The Hague
- Johannesschool - Arnhem
- CBS Het Lichtpunt - Rhoon
- Thomas van Aquinoschool - Sneek
- CBS De Waterhof - Delft
In special education, the following two schools have been nominated:
- SO De Hertog - Tiel
- SO De Ommezwaai - Arnhem
The process leading up to the final
Before the award ceremony on 23 March, the jury will visit the nominated schools. They will be given a tour and will ask questions of the school management, physical education teacher(s), class teachers and three pupils from the school.
2+1+2
The 2+1+2 model provides a framework for the guideline of five hours of physical activity for children. This means that schools provide sufficient, high-quality physical education lessons (2), pay attention to physical activity during the school day (+1), and offer a structural extracurricular sports and physical activity programme for all pupils (+2). Cooperation is crucial in this regard. Naturally, all of this is organised with a clear vision, and physical activity and sport occupy a clear place within the school. Participating schools naturally hold the Physical Activity and Sport theme certificate from the Healthy School quality mark.
Final of the 23 March 2022 election
On 23 March 2022, the nominated schools will compete for the title of ‘Most Active Primary School/Special Education School in the Netherlands 2022’ at the Willem-Alexander Sports Centre in Groningen. All nominated schools will show a video of their school, and the pupils will give a stage presentation for everyone present. This will be followed by a sports programme for the pupils and, ultimately, the awards ceremony. A knowledge event will also be organised for sports and physical activity professionals, fellow schools, students, sports policy officers and other interested parties.
In 2019, Kardinaal de Jong from Alkmaar was named the Most Active Primary School (see photo). SO de Piramide from The Hague was the Most Active Special Education School.
