The Healthy School programme aims to ensure that health becomes part of the DNA of every school. To achieve this, the Healthy School programme offers support to schools that want to become a Healthy School.

The Support Offer consists of an amount of €3,000 per school. The school uses this amount to work towards becoming a Healthy School. This means that the school can use the money to compensate the working hours of a member of its own staff who has been appointed as a Healthy School coordinator. To qualify for support, the school must have a Healthy School coordinator. The school can also choose to use the amount for implementing Healthy School activities or for applying for a Healthy School certificate.

In addition to the €3,000, schools receive a maximum of 10 hours of advice and support from a Healthy School adviser from the GGD. For this, the school must contact the Healthy School adviser from the GGD in its region.

Which schools?

The Support Offer is intended for all schools (locations) in primary education, secondary education and secondary vocational education.

Allocation

The budget for support is limited. If the number of applications exceeds the available budget, allocations will therefore be made on the basis of a number of allocation criteria arising from the Healthy School programme plan 2017–2020 (external link). Which schools have the greatest chance of receiving support?

  • primary schools located in disadvantaged neighbourhoods (with a low socioeconomic status, for which we use the weighting scheme) and schools for special education;
  • schools for (secondary) special education and practical education;
  • vmbo schools offering basic and intermediate vocational programmes;
  • mbo schools applying for entry-level and level 2 programmes;
  • schools that did not receive an allocation in the 2018 round;
  • schools that choose the Nutrition theme.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality is making financial resources available to support the Nutrition theme. As a result, half of the total support budget is earmarked for the Nutrition theme.

What is the schedule?

  • Schools can register and apply for the Support Offer from Monday 4 March through Thursday 18 April 2019.
  • Allocations will be made in May, so that the school has sufficient time to appoint a Healthy School coordinator and include one or more Healthy School themes in the school work plan and annual plan for the following school year.
  • The Healthy School coordinator appointed by the school will participate in the Healthy School training programme during the 2019–2020 school year.
  • Schools that are awarded support for the 2019 round in May 2019 can submit an invoice from 1 January 2020 through 30 September 2020.
