Why does your municipality support school gardening?

How is it organised, which partners are involved and how does it align with municipal policy themes such as health, education and sustainability? And perhaps most importantly: what does the future of school gardens in your municipality look like?

Show us in an enthusiastic vlog of no more than 3 minutes and stand a chance of winning the Golden Carrot 2026. The prize will be awarded during School Garden Week (18 to 22 May 2026).

New: Future plans added to the prize categories!

This year, the prize package has been expanded especially for municipalities that are starting out (or just getting started). Municipalities with the most impressive and inspiring future plans for their school garden (programme) will also have a chance to win. The winner will be followed for four seasons and will receive additional visibility through our national communications. This way, you will literally put your municipality on the Dutch School Garden map!

How can you participate?

  • Make a vlog showing why and how the municipality supports school gardening.
  • Make sure to include at least one alderperson; you could also include a teacher, school garden supporter or child.
  • Submit the vlog by 4 May 2026 at the latest.
  • Read the rules and technical requirements beforehand.

The School Garden Alliance is clear about the importance of the Golden Carrot: With the Golden Carrot, we not only celebrate a winner, but together inspire other municipalities to invest in school gardens. And all children—and the future—benefit from that. The Golden Carrot was first awarded in 2022. The winners were the municipalities of Teylingen and Arnhem.
