MediaMasters is a free serious game about the opportunities and dangers of (digital) media, specifically designed for pupils in years 5/6, 7/8 and specialised education (aged between 8 and 12). By playing the game, pupils build up basic knowledge of digital literacy while also developing language skills, citizenship and basic numeracy in a fun way. Pupils take on media literacy challenges both in the classroom and at home, joining forces to complete MediaMissions.

During the national MediaMasters competition, thousands of classes will compete from 5 to 13 November 2026 for the title of ‘Most Media-Literate Class in the Netherlands’ and great prizes.

Of course, as a primary education professional, you do not have to wait for Media Literacy Week to start working on digital balance. For example, there is the Guide to Digital Balance, which provides information and advice for, among others, preschoolers (4–6) and schoolchildren (6–12). The guide addresses the most important challenges relating to digital balance for each age category. Although there is no universal optimal balance, specific information and advice can be provided for each stage of development. As a professional, you can take this into account and draw it to parents’ attention.
