Gender diversity and parenting

During the knowledge hub, we will consider how to use broad definitions of gender when raising primary-school-age children, and how to deal with social norms about how a ‘boy’ or ‘girl’ is expected to behave.
We will share experiences and insights with parents and professionals who work with young children. After this afternoon, you will have a better understanding of how gender norms influence parenting and will be able to get started with practical tips for breaking through gender stereotypes.

What does the Gender Diversity Alliance do?

This knowledge hub is an initiative of the Gender Diversity Alliance. High heels were once fashionable for men, acting was once truly a man’s pastime, and pink was once the norm for boys’ clothing. We call these gender norms: social norms about how men, women, boys, and girls are expected to behave. The Gender Diversity Alliance aims to influence gender norms and create more space, flexibility, and diversity in gender.

The alliance is a collaboration between various organisations. Movisie, Doetank PEER, Emancipator, and Rutgers form the core group. The Gender Diversity Alliance is made possible by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.
