What can you expect from the training?

The Guest Cooking Instructor training is practical and interactive. Theory is immediately linked to practical examples and assignments. You will learn how to plan and teach a cooking lesson yourself:

  • with or without a kitchen;
  • for an entire class or smaller groups;
  • that is logistically feasible and educationally sound;
  • with attention to health and sustainability.

During the training, you will work on assignments that prepare you for practice. This gives you a realistic picture of what will be expected of you as a guest cooking instructor when you start working in schools and after-school care programs. There will also be an exchange of experiences, giving you a solid foundation to work independently.

Who are we looking for for the training?

Candidates for the Guest Cooking Instructor training:

  • have an affinity for cooking, food and education;
  • preferably have experience working with children;
  • are enthusiastic about inspiring children to eat healthily and sustainably;
  • want to provide guest lessons at schools and/or after-school care programs as a self-employed professional after completing the full training;
  • can find a school/after-school care program themselves where they can provide one or more guest lessons;
  • will be featured as certified Guest Cooking Instructors after completing the training via the Chef! teaching portal at www.voedseleducatie.nl and on Jong Leren Eten’s Guest Cooking Instructor website.

Requirements:

Between the first and second training days, you will be assigned to teach a guest lesson at a school/after-school care program. Guest instructors must have a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) or be willing to apply for one. This is not necessary to attend the training, but it is required to carry out the work as a guest instructor. The costs are your own responsibility.

After the training

After successfully completing the training, you must be willing to offer your services to schools and after-school care programs as a certified guest cooking instructor. You will do this as a self-employed professional, with contact taking place directly with the school/after-school care program. You will be featured as a guest instructor on the Chef! teaching portal via www.voedseleducatie.nl, where an expansion of the guest instructor network is currently being developed (launching in May 2026). You will also be featured on the “Guest Cooking Instructor” webpage of Jong Leren Eten.

At www.voedseleducatie.nl, you will soon be able to offer various guest lessons to schools and after-school care programs as a guest instructor, access e-learning about cooking and register for various continuing education courses. The guest instructor network is an initiative of Jong Leren Eten, Smaaklessen & School of Food.
