Two conditions
The locations must meet two conditions:
- They must be easily accessible: they must be located no more than a 20-minute walk or cycle ride from primary schools.
- They must be accessible to everyone: teachers must be able to give outdoor lessons there easily.
Three types of education
The outdoor lessons can consist of three types of education:
- Nature education, such as exploring animals, plants and landscapes.
- Food education, in which pupils learn about food chains, edible greenery or local food production.
- Sustainability education, in which children discover how people and nature can live together in balance, for example through topics such as climate, energy and circularity.
Information
IVN Zeeland requires the following information about the outdoor learning spaces:
- The name. If there is no official name, the person submitting the location may come up with a name themselves.
- A brief description of the location.
- Address of the location. To display the location correctly on the map, it is useful to provide the exact location. People submitting a location can do this by opening Google Maps on their mobile device or computer, selecting the correct location and sharing it in the registration form.
- Information about facilities: is there a visitor centre, a toilet, a place to shelter from the rain, and are there fieldwork materials available on site?
- Information about accessibility: is the location freely accessible, is the location accessible by appointment, and is the location wheelchair accessible?
- Costs: is the location free or is there an admission fee?
- Target group: is the location suitable for ages 0–4, 4–6 (preschoolers), 7–12 (primary school middle and upper years), or 12 and older (secondary school)?
