Healthy School Support Programme 2022–2023

Would you like attention to a healthy lifestyle at your school to become second nature? The Healthy School Support Programme can help you with this. For example, to devote extra attention to the physical and mental health of pupils and students, which is under additional pressure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If approved, your school will receive:

  • €3,000 to be spent on:
    • compensation for the working hours of a school employee appointed as Healthy School coordinator;
    • the implementation or purchase of recognised Healthy School activities;
    • applying for a theme certificate for the Healthy School quality mark;
    • completing the training programme to become a Specialist in Active and Healthy Schools.
  • Training for your school’s Healthy School coordinator.
  • An average of 10 hours of advice and support from a Healthy School adviser from the municipal health service (GGD).

What will you do?

In the 2022–2023 school year, you will get started with one or more of the following themes:

  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity and sport
  • Well-being
  • Smoking, alcohol and drug prevention
  • Environment and nature

You will then bring structure to what you are already doing. The Healthy School approach can help with this. You choose a theme to be addressed in lessons, encourage healthy behaviour in the school environment, make agreements about how to identify health or lifestyle problems, and record all agreements in the school policy. This gives attention to a healthy lifestyle a permanent place in the school.

Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme (round 6)

Addressing relationships and sexuality in the classroom at an early stage contributes to the healthy and positive sexual development of pupils and students. Sexual education also helps prevent unintended pregnancies, sexual boundary violations and STIs. Discussing this topic is not always easy for everyone. The Healthy Relationships & Sexuality Incentive Scheme is designed to support school professionals as effectively as possible in this area. The incentive scheme places an additional focus on pupils and students. Due to the limited number of places in round 6, Healthy School gives priority to special primary schools and vocational education locations.

If approved, your school will receive:

  • A financial contribution of €5,000 to be spent on:
    • compensation for the working hours of a school employee appointed as Healthy School coordinator;
    • the implementation or purchase of recognised Healthy School activities;
    • the implementation of optional components, such as team training or programmes for parents.
  • Training for your school’s Healthy School coordinator.
  • Up to 20 hours of guidance from a Healthy School adviser from the municipal health service (GGD).

Young Learning Eat Well Incentive Contribution – Enjoy Getting Outside (round 5)

Go out with pupils or students and give them practical experience with healthy and sustainable food. Under the motto ‘Enjoy getting outside!’, all primary, special primary, secondary and vocational schools can apply for a contribution for three activities:

  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • An excursion or guest lesson about nutrition

If approved, your school will receive:

  • A contribution of up to €2,000 for one or more of the following activities:
    • Gardening (maximum amount per class: €500)
    • Cooking (maximum amount per class: €550)
    • An excursion or guest lesson about nutrition (maximum amount per class: €450)
  • The Young Learning Eat Well coordinator in your region can help you think about suitable activities in the area.
