Physical activity as a fixed part of the day
The school is committed to accessible physical activity for all students. There is an activity square where students can exercise during breaks, and sports during breaks are a fixed part of the timetable. Movement is also incorporated into lessons to actively engage students.
This approach stems from shared goals among the teaching team. Students indicate that they are better able to concentrate after exercising, which strengthens their academic performance and well-being.
Connection with the neighborhood
To embed physical activity sustainably, the school looks beyond its own walls. Maris College Bohemen is gradually developing into a hub in the neighborhood, where learning, physical activity and meeting one another come together. The Hague serves as an active learning and living environment.
By working with neighborhoods, institutions and initiatives, education is connected to the world in which students live, and they gain valuable experiences outside the classroom as well.
Building a rich school day together
With support from the School & Omgeving scheme, the school organizes a broad and accessible program together with community sports coaches, clubs and social partners. This lowers barriers, encourages physical activity and helps students discover their talents.
This creates a strong community around the school, in which students, parents, staff and partners jointly take responsibility for a healthy and promising future for young people.
Valuable insights for NPLV neighborhoods
The experiences of Maris College Bohemen (read this action perspective) show how schools can develop into a hub in the neighborhood and how physical activity, education and cooperation with the surrounding community can reinforce one another. The practical experience built up around physical activity, the use of School & Omgeving and cooperation with local partners offer concrete starting points for NPLV program teams working toward a healthy and vital younger generation.
