What can you expect?
According to the organisation, during the conference professionals will discover the vision, tools and training offered by Act4Respect, as well as the lessons learned after five years, and will receive practical guidance that can be applied directly in practice.
Act4Respect
Act4Respect was launched in 2018 as an initiative of Rutgers (a knowledge centre for sexuality and sexual health) and Atria (a knowledge institute for emancipation and women's history). Among other things, these organisations are committed to preventing gender-based violence. Act4Respect's aim is to help a new generation of young people learn to deal respectfully with gender differences.
Gender-based violence
According to Act4Respect, gender-based violence is violence that affects someone because of their sex or gender. Girls, women and LGBTIQ+ people in particular are victims of this type of violence. The cause of gender-based violence lies in the traditional gender norms that exist in society. Examples include the idea that a boy should not cry and must be tough, or that a girl should have an accommodating and caring character. In this way, young people are given certain expectations. These expectations play a role in someone becoming a perpetrator or a victim.
