A selection of highlights

  • Approximately 3,368 schools got to work with the Healthy School approach over the past year through one of the four incentive schemes or obtained a certificate. That is 39% of all schools in the Netherlands.
  • To provide an impetus for giving structural attention to healthy and safe working, the new Healthy and Safe Working scheme for secondary vocational education (mbo) was launched. In 2022, 16 mbo school locations participated in a pilot.
  • Approximately 351 schools made use of the incentive contribution Lekker naar Buiten! from the Jong Leren Eten programme. This teaches children and young people more about healthy nutrition and the origins and sustainability of food in an interactive way.
  • Schools participating in the Healthy Relationships and Sexuality incentive scheme are seeing results: 92% of schools report that they have observed pupils/students treating their own sexuality and that of others with greater respect. There were also 23% fewer incidents, such as inappropriate behaviour or gender discrimination, after the scheme was introduced.
  • New educational courses and training programmes were developed, both for new and experienced schools and for other professionals, such as those working in youth healthcare.
  • Knowledge and inspiration were shared on strengthening local cooperation and embedding it in the region, including through inspiration sessions and the booklet Stronger together for a healthy youth, featuring ten practical examples of successful cooperation between schools, municipalities and municipal health services.
