The councils advocate working with so-called physical activity teams, which include not only specialist physical education teachers but also community sports coaches and qualified trainers. Schools could work more closely with sports clubs, and municipalities could take on a stronger coordinating role in this area. This is stated in the joint advisory report ‘The joy of physical activity’.
According to the three councils, sport and physical activity should be a natural part of education. There are currently major differences between schools in this area, which could eventually lead to inequality of opportunity. The younger children are when they are encouraged at school to be physically active often and, above all, enjoyably, the more likely they are to participate in sports and physical activity later in life. Schools play an important role in teaching motor skills and an active lifestyle. In addition, sport and physical activity are important for the personal development and socialisation of children and young people—important aims of education.
