Six circles of influence on wellbeing
Based on a review of the literature, the authors distinguish six circles of influence on wellbeing. They view them as circles in the water of a pond, with the teacher as a stone that creates ripples influencing all the circles.
1. Teacher wellbeing: make sure that, as a teacher, you feel good and know what role you play in relation to the wellbeing of your pupils. This will enable you to increase your positive influence.
2. Individual pupil wellbeing: recognise the strengths and opportunities in the social-emotional development and wellbeing of each pupil.
3. Group dynamics in the classroom: create a group that provides a promising and safe environment for every pupil.
4. Professional learning environment (team): work with the team towards a preventive, proactive and learning-oriented attitude. Continue to generate attention for the topic, keep consulting with one another and create a safe atmosphere within the team where there is room to be open with each other.
5. Positive educational school climate: ensure that attention to wellbeing is reflected throughout the school, supported by all colleagues and pupils.
6. Environmental context: neighbourhood characteristics, social factors, home situation and care structures outside the school, such as youth work (not developed further in this guidance).
