“There was extra attention for the fact that we are not there yet and that more Big People are needed for a healthy future,” says JOGG director and board member Marjon Bachra. “But this year too, we shared examples of the changes that we are already making as the JOGG network. In doing so, we want to show that if we tackle this together, we can come ever closer to a society in which being able to live healthily really is the starting point.”
Locally, JOGG municipalities and partners organised a wide range of activities. A look back at a successful week with national, regional and local media attention, as well as plenty of activity on social media.
From the Toddler4day, water barrels, boxing lessons for toddlers and outdoor play day to inspiration for healthy food
In the more than 200 affiliated municipalities that are part of the JOGG movement, the activities varied widely: Alderman Siert Jan Lap handed over water barrels in JOGG municipality of Dronten to Jacolien Lokhorst, the new director of Kinderopvang Dronten. These water barrels were distributed during the week to encourage children to drink more water. In Ooststellingwerf, children were able to try out all kinds of sports for a week. The municipality wants a future in which everyone can grow up healthy. Children learned a lot about healthy food, several schools were awarded a Golden Cafeteria Award and, despite the weather conditions, there was plenty of outdoor play during Outdoor Play Day.
Highlights featuring contributions from Ambassadors
Various JOGG municipalities were visited by JOGG ambassadors. The Healthy Sisters were in Haarlem for a cooking workshop, got the neighbourhood moving and inspired professionals in the municipality of Utrecht. Herre Zonderland was in Dordrecht, where he celebrated the 10th anniversary of the JOGG approach in the municipality. Olympian and elite athlete Nicole Beukers gave the starting signal for the national Toddler4day in Nijmegen and inspired more education professionals in Zaanstad. Erik Scherder gave an online lecture to parents and carers in the North Holland region. Erben Wennemars got on a bike (stand-up bike) in the Betuwe, toured various villages, attended sporting activities and got children moving by running The Daily Mile together with them.
