A sporty & healthy Orange celebration

Every year, more than one million children take part in Koningsspelen, coming from thousands of schools in the Netherlands, the Caribbean part of the Kingdom and Dutch schools abroad. The aim of Koningsspelen is to contribute to a connected, sporty and healthy society, with fun as the main driving force.

Theme 2026: Everyone Fun

Fun is one of the most important reasons to start exercising and to keep it up, including later in life. That is why the 2026 edition is dedicated to Everyone Fun. Because fun grows when everyone takes part and contributes. Whether you are exercising, cheering people on, preparing breakfast, arranging the music or helping with the organisation: together we make Koningsspelen a celebration. This applies to children, teachers, sports providers, parents and volunteers.

Richard Krajicek, initiator of Koningsspelen, explains: “With the theme Everyone Fun, we show what Koningsspelen are really about: having fun together, being active and eating a healthy breakfast. Fun arises when everyone feels welcome to participate, in their own way. Whether you exercise, help organise or cheer from the sidelines. Everyone contributes. It is precisely this shared enjoyment that helps children continue to exercise and eat breakfast.”

At the launch, Britt Dekker and ‘special guest’ Dutchtuber (Job van Grafhorst), together with the children and teachers of De Pionier Primary School, took part in a Zappsport battle. Teachers and pupils competed against each other with one goal: to get as many table tennis balls as possible into their basket. Everyone took part enthusiastically, and hundreds of table tennis balls soon flew through the air.

Kick-off in Maarssen

De Pionier Primary School in Maarssen had the honour of launching the new edition. Together with the children, the theme was unveiled in a festive manner, and attention was drawn to the message of Koningsspelen: being active and eating a healthy breakfast is important and fun.

Sports and Celebration Pack

All participating schools receive a free Sports and Celebration Pack. It inspires schools to give shape to Koningsspelen in an accessible and enjoyable way. The materials can be used not only on the day itself, but also during PE lessons and outdoor play later in the school year.

King’s Breakfast

In addition to the Sports and Celebration Pack, schools can also receive a free King’s Breakfast. During this shared breakfast, children experience in a festive way how important a healthy start to the day is.

Ola ole olee

In 2026, Kinderen voor Kinderen will once again create a special song and accompanying dance for Koningsspelen, which will be launched in mid-March. Schools can use the song and choreography as a joint warm-up during this festive day.

Koningsspelen Moves: getting active in and with the class

Koningsspelen encourages children to stay active throughout the year. With Koningsspelen Moves, developed by Lucia Marthas, teachers can incorporate activity moments into the school day in a simple and fun way. This school year, they have been given a new look and activity has been presented in the form of an energiser song. Koningsspelen Moves are still suitable for different ages and levels, including children with disabilities, and can be used throughout the school year. The new Koningsspelen Moves can be found at www.koningsspelen.nl/inspiratie/moves.
