What is the EU School Fruit and Vegetables Programme?

The aim of the EU School Fruit and Vegetables Programme is to encourage children to eat more vegetables and fruit and to teach them healthy eating habits.

Through EU School Fruit, schools receive 3 portions of vegetables and fruit for all pupils for 20 weeks. And it is completely free, thanks to funding from the European Union. Teachers also get started with food education using the Chef! educational portal. Schools are also encouraged to establish (more) regular vegetable and fruit days at school. This helps make eating vegetables and fruit at school a habit.

Tasty, healthy and educational!

With EU School Fruit, eating vegetables and fruit at school is not only tasty and healthy, but educational too! Education is a standard component of the programme. With the free Chef! educational portal, schools gain access to a wealth of teaching materials, activities and excursions about healthy nutrition.

These teaching materials enable pupils to learn more interactively about the importance of healthy nutrition and the role of vegetables and fruit in a healthy diet. This not only encourages them to eat more healthily, but also teaches them why this is so important for their bodies and health.

Regular vegetable and fruit days at school

At EU School Fruit, we aim to inspire children to eat more vegetables and fruit not only during the delivery period, but throughout the entire school year. Teachers receive tips and inspiration for establishing regular vegetable and fruit days at school. In addition, wijkiezengroenteenfruit.nu features a useful step-by-step plan and various materials to support schools in setting up or expanding a school fruit policy. Together, we can ensure that healthy nutrition becomes a permanent part of school life!

Would you like to participate too?

Last school year, around 2,900 schools participated. Would you also like to take part next school year? All primary schools, special (primary) education schools and special (secondary) education schools can register for EU School Fruit between 2 and 13 September*. There is a maximum number of schools that can participate. If this number is exceeded, a draw will take place. The vegetable and fruit deliveries will take place between 11 November 2024 and 18 April 2025*. Visit euschoolfruit.nl for more information.

*Dates are subject to publication of the School Scheme.
