Why participate?

According to the organisation, participating in the election offers several benefits:

  • recognition and pride: participating in the election gives a school the recognition it deserves for its commitment to sports and physical activity in education;
  • inspiration for others: schools inspire other schools to give sports and physical activity a central role in education;
  • networking and collaboration: by participating in the election, a school becomes part of a community of schools that share the same passion for health, exercise and education. This is an opportunity to learn and grow.

About the election of the Most Sports-Oriented School in the Netherlands

Every year, the election of the Most Sports-Oriented School in the Netherlands is organised by the KVLO, together with the Knowledge Centre for Sport & Physical Activity and NOC*NSF. In one year, the organisation looks for the most sports-oriented primary school and the most sports-oriented special (primary) education school, while in the other year the elections are held for secondary education and special secondary education.

The aim of this election is to recognise sports-active schools and departments that offer their pupils an exceptionally good or innovative programme of physical activity and sport. In addition, the organisation is keen to give schools a platform to inspire other schools. All schools participating in the election are Healthy Schools.
