On 12 August 2020, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment supplemented the childcare & coronavirus protocol with rules on home quarantine. Parents returning from an area with an orange or red travel advisory are strongly advised to stay at home for two weeks. Different stay-at-home rules apply to children aged 0 to 12. The rules for children aged 0 to 4 are stricter than those for children aged 4 to 12.
This decision tree can be used to easily determine whether or not a child may attend childcare (daycare, preschool care, out-of-school care and childminder care) and/or school.
The decision tree was created in cooperation with AJN Youth Doctors Netherlands. This decision tree can be used alongside the decision tree for children with colds. First, the decision tree for returning from an orange/red area is followed and, if necessary, the decision tree for children with colds is then followed. The decision trees have deliberately been kept separate, because the decision tree for children with colds works well and is used nationwide. This means it does not need to be adapted, and the new tree can be applied on top of it.
In case of doubt or questions, BOinK advises calling the national public information number for the coronavirus operated by the Dutch government: 0800-1351 (free of charge). This number is available every day between 08:00 and 20:00. From abroad, the number can be reached by calling +31 20 205 1351.
