The NPO gives schools the opportunity to talk to parents about an appropriate next step, based on the analysis of education during the coronavirus pandemic. To help prepare for this conversation, Ouders & Onderwijs, together with the organisations Samen Zijn Wij School and Voor Werkende Ouders, developed a conversation guide. It contains sample questions that you can discuss at home with your son or daughter.

Involving students and parents

The conversations should clarify how the student is doing and what they need. It is important for schools to hear how the student and their parent(s) experienced distance learning. They also need to know what motivates and helps the student, whether there are any concerns and whether special support is needed. Particular attention is paid to the social and emotional aspects. Subsequently, agreements can be made about everyone’s contribution to the student’s development.

Understanding the student

The coronavirus crisis has had a major impact on students. Some students have fallen behind in their learning or have become less motivated, while others have made a growth spurt. Through the National Education Programme, schools receive additional financial resources to mitigate the consequences of the crisis. That is why it is being mapped out what the student and the school need in order to move forward.
