The app has been downloaded throughout the country by (employees of) daycare centers, out-of-school care providers, and host parent childcare providers. The ‘pages’ in the app have already been viewed more than 55,700 times in total. The three most popular pages are the page with an overview of the domestic violence action plan, the emergency situation page, and the page with an overview of the action plan to follow when abuse by an employee is suspected. The option to download the ‘child abuse and inappropriate behavior’ protocol for childcare is also a favorite.

Goal
BOinK developed the app in collaboration with the childcare industry organizations. BOinK has set itself an ambitious goal: for every childcare professional and host parent to install the app on their phone. In addition, the app should be installed on at least one phone or tablet belonging to the organization at every childcare location. This makes consulting and, if necessary, applying the reporting code even more accessible. The presence of the app at the location is an indication for the GGD inspection: it proves that the improved reporting code for domestic violence and child abuse is known and ready for use.

Addressing child abuse
Using the app brings us one step closer to addressing child abuse. The app can be used anonymously and is easily accessible: general information can also be looked up first before applying the reporting code. The app’s developers hope that childcare professionals and host parents will recognize signs of child abuse earlier, apply the reporting code, and, if necessary, report them to Veilig Thuis. Vulnerable children will then be identified earlier and the necessary help can be provided.
