What is Blik Op Je Eten?
Blik Op Je Eten consists of activity cards for use in the classroom or on the school playground. Each year group has a tin containing 20 cards, which teachers can use with little or no preparation. In just 5 minutes per activity, pupils discover all kinds of things about food. What does it taste like, is it healthy, where does it come from, how does it get onto my plate and how is it prepared? Various types of assignments are included, ranging from a discussion, circle discussion or drawing assignment to a physical activity or quiz. The activity cards are perfect for use before or after an eating moment, such as lunch or snack time.
Alignment with core objectives and Smaaklessen
Blik Op Je Eten aligns seamlessly with the core objectives of primary education and with other activities and lessons about food and exercise. They align with the learning area ‘Orientation to oneself and the world’, especially the domain ‘People and society’ (core objectives 34, 35, 37, 39) and the domain ‘Nature and technology’ (core objectives 40, 41). Blik Op Je Eten was developed in collaboration with teachers and pupils.
Are Smaaklessen also taught at your school? Perfect! The activity cards can be combined excellently with Smaaklessen. Not familiar with Smaaklessen yet? Don’t worry, the final cards for each year group refer to a Smaakles. Ideal when there is more time to explore a subject in greater depth.
Food education around eating moments
Many children eat lunch and snacks in the classroom. School is a safe, educational environment where children can be encouraged to think about the food they eat. How did it get onto your plate? Is that lunch healthy? What kinds of flavors did it contain? With Blik Op Je Eten, you can focus attention on lunch and other topics through fun and educational lesson activities.
Having stronger food skills leads (young) adults to make healthier and more sustainable dietary choices. In other words: the more you know and can do, the healthier and more sustainably you eat. Education is important to ensure that children become adults with strong food skills.
Pupils who eat healthily and get enough exercise are fitter and can concentrate better. In addition, they are better equipped to resist temptations in the food environment. This helps them maintain a healthy and sustainable lifestyle during secondary school and beyond.
