Who is it for?

The scheme is intended for primary education (PO/SO), secondary education (VO/VSO) and secondary vocational education (MBO). Eligible schools receive a maximum of €1,500 per location. This amount can be used for activities such as gardening, cooking lessons, excursions or a guest lesson about nutrition.

Learning by doing

Research conducted in 2023 shows that schools mainly use the grant to focus on nutrition and nature. Thanks to this scheme, they were able to purchase materials and organise (guest) lessons. This gave pupils and students more opportunities to learn through experience, for example by discovering for themselves how food grows and tastes. For many children – particularly those in disadvantaged areas or with vulnerable health – this is valuable knowledge that they do not always acquire at home.
Many schools worked with local partners such as urban farms, farmers, dietitians, gardening coaches, restaurants or shops.

Limited budget, fair allocation

The initiators want to encourage as many schools as possible to get started with this. Please note: the budget is limited. If there are more applications than available grants, allocation criteria will apply. For example, schools that have not previously received a grant from Jong Leren Eten will be given priority. Schools will be informed by the end of June at the latest whether their application has been approved.

Applications and more information

Applications can be submitted through 3 June via Mijngezondeschool.nl. More information about the scheme, conditions and allocation criteria can be found here or on the Jong Leren Eten website.
