Can we still use an inquiry-based approach outside of the classroom? Of course! In fact, an inquiry-based approach can make your online lessons more engaging. Inquiry-based learning also allows you to provide students with a flexible schedule. And while it’s hard to use traditional assessments online, student artifacts and presentations provide an ideal way for students to demonstrate their understanding. You’ll leave the session with lesson plans and resources you can use in your class the next day!

Session Highlights

In this session, you’ll explore the concepts behind inquiry-based learning, and use a 3-part workshop model to create inquiry-based activities for any grade level and subject area:

• Inspire: Workshop lessons start with generating interest. You’ll explore how activating prior knowledge and connecting to real-world applications primes students for exploratory learning.

• Inquire: In this part of the lesson, you give students questions to answer and problems to solve. When the activity is well-designed, the teacher supports students by providing resources and asking questions.

• Reflect: After each inquiry-based task, students need time to reflect and solidify learning. You’ll explore several reflective activities that will boost comprehension and retention.
