Description

Know your own place – a systemic approach to redistributing student groups.

Know your own place is a workshop/training that is given at your school with a group of your own composition. This can be during a meeting or for example during a study day.

We all know it in education: groups of students have been together for a number of years and then have to be reassembled for various reasons.

Usually, colleagues will puzzle and determine which children will end up in which group. And then the announcement follows. Unfortunately, we all know that sequel all too well. Disappointed children and angry parents who show up on the doorstep because they want the best for their child.

It can also be done differently. You can start with a systemic approach. That means that you use the wisdom that is in the children themselves, use the deep inner knowledge that is hidden in every child.

The advantage of this way of working? Children mainly determine themselves which group they end up in, and are therefore the owners of this process. This leads to them feeling connected more quickly in their new group. And when a child feels connected, it can relax more, which allows it to learn optimally. For teachers, it means that they have to make minimal effort to form the new groups. They can trust the process that takes place before their eyes.

Workshop/Training: the Duration

This workshop has a central theoretical start in which the working method of systemic thinking is explained. Then there is the possibility to zoom in on the groups where the most challenge is expected. Customization is necessary for this workshop. Multiple meetings in combination with a parents' evening are also possible.
