Liesl McConchie is an international expert on how the brain learns, and co-author of best-selling book Brain-Based Learning with Dr. Eric Jensen. She has been published in ASCD's Educational Leadership journal, and her second book with Dr. Jensen will be published in 2022. With over 20 years of experience in education, Liesl bridges her knowledge of how the brain best learns with her experience of teaching secondary math to create tangible strategies to support teachers and schools across the globe. She has a rich background in education that includes creating new schools, leading whole-school reforms, delivering workshops to educators, and speaking at conferences. Liesl brings the highest quality of research, professionalism, and engagement to all her contributions to the field of education.

About This Workshop

If motivating students feels like a daily guessing game where you hope your idea will work, but it feels like a gamble, then this mini workshop is for you. Learn strategies based on brain science that will give you the confidence to consistently foster high levels of student motivation. Students will show up, give effort, and learn better, leaving you re-energized as a teacher.

To accomplish this, we'll begin by exploring why we struggle to motivate students. Then we'll reflect on why a strategy often works once and then fails when we use it again. Next we'll discuss how to get students looking forward to your lessons and how to motivate the hard-to-motivate. From there we'll talk about practical applications including what happens if none of this works and how to modify these strategies for elementary, middle, or high school students. Finally, we'll help you continue your growth by focusing on how to boost student motivation moving forward.
